The reference framework COSMOS relating to Organic and Natural cosmetic products is an internationally recognized European standard.
It was developed by 5 founding members: BDIH (Germany), COSMEBIO (France), ECOCERT (France), ICEA (Italy) and SOIL ASSOCIATION (United Kingdom).
What is the purpose of COSMOS certification?
COSMOS certification allows you to market your organic or natural cosmetics.
COSMOS certification guarantees:
- Production and processing processes that respect the environment and human health
- The development of the concept of green chemistry
- Responsible use of natural resources
- Respect for biodiversity
- Absence of petrochemical ingredients (excluding authorized preservatives): parabens, phenoxyethanol, synthetic perfumes and colorants
- The absence of GMOs
- Recyclable packaging
It is the certification according to the international COSMOS standard which allows you to label your natural or organic products.
All products marketed with the COSMOS logo have been verified by certification bodies: from the composition and processing process to its packaging.
Consumers thus have access to transparent information on the content of natural and organic ingredients indicated on the products.
Affixing the COSMOS logo to your products is a guarantee of quality for customers.
There are two certifications: COSMOS ORGANIC And COSMOS NATURAL :
COSMOS NATURAL:
- All ingredients used are of natural origin with the exception of a restrictive list of approved ingredients (including preservatives) permitted in small quantities.
Of the total product, limitation of petrochemical origin (list of authorized ingredients with maximum dosage), which ultimately amounts to approximately 95% minimum of ingredients of natural origin
COSMOS ORGANIC:
A beauty product is certified COSMOS ORGANIC only if:
- Of the total product, limitation of petrochemical origin (list of authorized ingredients with maximum dosage), which ultimately amounts to approximately 95% minimum of ingredients of natural origin
- 95% minimum organic ingredients on all ingredients that can be organic (such as plants, beeswax, milk, etc.)
There is also a list of ingredients that must be organic in the formula (shea butter; sunflower oil; honey; coconut oil, etc.).
- 20% minimum organic ingredients in the total product (10% for rinse-off and mineral products – water and minerals considered non-organic because they are not grown)
